NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State junior Jennifer Corral has become the first Lady Tiger in five seasons to earn Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honors for her part in leading the team to its first tournament title and longest unbeaten streak in the program's history.
Corral had 66 kills and a hitting percentage of .389 in TSU's run to the championship of the Alabama State Tournament over the weekend. Corral, an outside hitter from Thousand Oaks, Cal., and Ventura Junior College, also 57 digs, five block assists, and three solo blocks in three-game sweeps each of Mississippi Valley State, Morris Brown, host Alabama State, and South Carolina State.
Earlier in the week, Corral led TSU's comeback win at home over Belmont. She had 20 kills and hitting percentage of .304.
The Lady Tigers are even at 5-5 heading into the OVC opener at Tennessee Tech Tuesday night. Corral becomes the first TSU player to earn the OVC honor since Alishia Marshall received the award during the 1997 season.
The Lady Tigers five-match winning streak is the longest in the program's history and the championship at the ASU Tournament also marked the first tournament crown for the Lady Tigers.
