The Tigers open the 2020 season with four games at the UNA Softball Invitational. The Big Blue returns their top six hitters from a season ago and will feature the top pitchers from the last two seasons. Lauren Powell returns for her final season after sitting out the 2019 campaign due to injury. Powell enters as one of the top pitchers in TSU history, will join forces with Raven Loveless who earned a spot on last year’s OVC All-Newcomer team. Loveless recorded 11 wins and a save while registering a 2.96 ERA.

Offensively, Bri Vire and Reese Weber return as the lone two hitters to eclipse .300. Vire went 46-for-140, posting a .329 average with seven doubles and a team high 23 runs. Weber drove in 16 runners while going 39-for-129 (.302) with five doubles. Sarah Snell hit .268 for the Big Blue with three doubles, two triples and three home runs. Snell also amassed 24 walks and nine stolen bases. Savanah Wallace batted .256 in 82 at bats, finishing just ahead of Patton Akers at .242. Katie Schneider (.233) led the unit a season ago with 18 RBI and matched Bri Vire for a team best seven doubles.

The Lions are led by pitcher Megan Garst who is coming off a 16-6 season where she finished with one save and a 0.83 ERA. Garst tossed six shutouts and combined for another two in 29 appearances. The hurler struck out 175 batters in 152.2 innings while holding opponents to a .148 batting average. The top six hitters from a year ago return to provide offensive support after hitting .270 with 18 home runs. Harley Stokes led the team with 10 home runs and 27 RBI while finishing third with a .288 batting average. Stokes added six doubles and scored 22 times. Veronica Westfall topped the squad hitting .354 and scored 13 runs while driving in 15. Meleah Hargett matched Westfall for a team best 46 hits and led the Lions with 27 runs and four triples. Hargett batted .303 on the season with five doubles, 11 runs batted in and tied fellow returner Lexie Harper for a team high seven stolen bases.

The Braves return six of their top eight batters from a squad that batted .282 and averaged over four runs a game in 2019. Sandrea Hood led the way with a .333 average going 23-for-69 with four doubles, two triples, 13 runs and 17 RBI while playing in 27 of 38 games Simone McKinney followed at .328 going 38-for-116 with two doubles, 16 runs, eight RBI and 11 walks. Brittney Triplett led the squad with 24 runs scored and 14 stolen bases while hitting .276 with two doubles, a triple, nine RBI, and 16 walks. Amari Ramsey provided the power with eight doubles, three triples and three home runs. Ramsey added 19 runs and drove in 21 runs driven in while hitting at a. 275 clip. In the circle, Ambria Dorsey finished 4-14 with four saves and a 4.70 ERA in 26 appearances. Dorsey fanned 86 batters in 120.2 innings pitched.
