2018 Softball Season in Review



  • The Tennessee State Softball team finished the 2018 season with a 4-48 record, while compiling a 1-20 Ohio Valley Conference record

  • The program was awarded the Ohio Valley Conference Sportsmanship Award
  • The Tigers claimed their first two wins of the season at the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson University in DeLand, Fla.

  • TSU earned its first victory by outlasting Drexel, 7-5 (3/3)

  • The Big Blue gained its second win a day later with a five inning, 9-0, run-rule win over Cornell (3/4) 

  • Sophomore Megan Huppee and junior Kierra Ware were named to the All-Classic team

  • Junior pitcher Lauren Powell tossed the shutout over Cornell and followed it up six days later with her second career shutout as she blanked Bowling Green, 5-0 (3/10)

  • As a team, the Tigers posted the fifth most stolen bases (53) in program history and notched the fifth best fielding percentage (.947)
  • Sophomore Sarah Snell earned 30 walks on the season, for the second most in school history

  • On the final day of the season, Snell tied Caitlin Eaton's mark of 31 from 2009, but rain caused the walk to be erased due to the game being called short of an official game
  • Sophomore Reese Weber finished the season tied for eighth in school history after being hit by pitch nine times

  • Freshman Katie Schneider recorded the seventh best season at TSU in putouts with 279

  • Powell struckout 91 batters, which is tied for the seventh best amount at TSU
  • The junior matched Candace Hildebrand's 2007 total
