Opdenbrouw Not Retained as Softball Coach

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State Athletics Director Teresa Phillips announced that the contract of softball coach Tom Opdenbrouw will not be renewed.

Opdenbrouw compiled a 33-119 overall record (.217) in three seasons at the helm and a 9-64 mark (.123) in Ohio Valley Conference play. TSU posted a 12-37 record in 2017 and finished 2-19 in the OVC. The two conference wins is the lowest amount for a Tiger team since 2005.

“I’d like to thank Coach Opdenbrouw for his service to Tennessee State,” Phillips said. “He has been a dedicated member of the TSU family for nine years, but at this time we feel it is best to go in a different direction. I wish Coach Opdenbrouw and his family the best.”

Opdenbrouw came to TSU in 2008, serving as a softball assistant under then head coach, Joyce Maudie. After two seasons, Opdenbrouw became the Director of Football Operations in 2010, before returning to Tiger Softball as head coach in the summer of 2014.

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
