NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State fell to UT Martin on Senior Day at Tiger Field on Sunday afternoon. TSU lost 8-0 in five innings to the Skyhawks and dropped to 12-35 on the season, 2-17 in Ohio Valley Conference play. UTM improved to 35-15, 12-4 in the OVC. Game two was called due to rain.

Senior Courtney Gearlds and Danica Gleason collected three of the Tigers four hits on the day. Gearlds picked up two knocks, including a double, while Erica O’Kane registered the fourth hit for the Tigers.

The Skyhawks sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning on their way to scoring four runs and added four more in the third off starter Lauren Woodard. The senior dropped to 4-13 on the season as she surrendered nine hits and two walks.

The Tigers attempted to retaliate in the first as Sarah Snell earned her team leading 18th walk of the season and moved into scoring position on a single by Gleason. The duo was stranded on base as UTM starter Brooke Kennedy (19-5) recorded the next two outs to stymie the Tigers threat.

Gearlds reached on a double to left center in the third, while O’Kane doubled to center in the fourth, but both were left on second in each inning. Gearlds was the Tigers last chance with a two out single in the fifth, but once again Kennedy ended any chance for TSU.

The Tigers will close out the season with a doubleheader at Belmont on Friday, May 5.
