2017 Tigers: Tennessee State snapped a seven game slide and went on to a 3-2 weekend at the Leon Smith Classic in Oxford, Ala. TSU defeated Alabama A&M and picked up extra inning wins over Loyola and Samford. Lauren Powell led the way in the circle earning all three wins holding her opponents to a .115 batting average while earning a 0.47 ERA. Selena Crafton led the offense finishing the weekend 10-for-20 (.500) with five RBI, including the game-ending single in the ninth inning against Loyola. Courtney Gearlds moved into the No. 4 spot in the TSU career hit list with four hits during the classic, giving the senior 144 hits. Gearlds was hit by a pitch for the 34th time in her career on Sunday afternoon. The centerfielder tied Lindsey Burgess for the top spot on the TSU career list. This will mark the first game since Mar. 12 due to a postponment of a double header scheduled at Northern Kentucky on Mar. 15.
