Tiger Softball Prepares For a Pair of OVC Double Headers
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State returns to Ohio Valley Conference play after dropping both ends of a non-conference double header on Wednesday to Lipscomb. The Tigers host Austin Peay for two games on Saturday, Mar. 21, before hitting the road to face Murray State in a double dip on Sunday, Mar. 22.
The Tigers are 1-2 in conference play, 8-15 overall. Austin Peay sits at 2-14, 1-2 in the OVC, while Murray State enters a Saturday twin bill with Belmont at 13-9, 1-2. The games are available through Live Stats and can be heard on
TSU has six batters hitting over .300 and are batting .281 as a team, while averaging four runs a game. Freshman Kailey Richard leads the team at .333 (21-for-63) with 10 runs, five doubles and a home run. Richard is tied with Lindsey Burgess with 12 runs batted in to lead the squad. Burgess, batting .259, has scored the most runs for the Tigers with 18 and has powered five home runs.
Courtney Gearlds has the most hits on the team with 25 in 77 at bats for a .325 average. The sophomore is the biggest threat on the base paths with 10 stolen bases and has crossed home plate 14 times.
