Nashville --- The Tennessee State University softball team knocked off Austin Peay, 10-1, in five innings Thursday evening at Tiger Field.
Tennessee State improved to 10-30 (4-13 OVC) while Austin Peay fell to 8-28 (3-11 OVC).
Caitlin Eaton picked up the win and improved to, 7-12, while Morgan Brewer (5-10) was charged with the loss for Austin Peay.
Eaton and Jasmine Dunston each recorded homeruns in the contest while Dunston led the team with three RBI and Kelly Troglin tallied two. Jasmine Brimm scored three runs and tallied two stolen bases in the outing.
Jessica Ryan (1-of-2) recorded Austin Peay's only RBI of the game while de Castro, Cozart and Mills also registered a hit.
Tennessee State finished the game with six hits and two errors while Austin Peay only managed four hits and committed four errors.
In the bottom of the first, Tedra Alford walked to lead off the inning before advancing to second on a hit through the middle by Jasmine Brimm. Moments later, Alford reached third on a fielder's choice by Brittany Webb before scoring on a throwing error by the shortstop.
TSU went up, 2-0, after Brimm stole third and then scored on another throwing error by Austin Peay.
Jill Gardner led the next inning off with a blooper to center field and advanced to second on a hit by Tedra Alford. Gardner crossed the plate following a sacrifice bunt from Brimm and another APSU error.
In the bottom of the third, Caitlin Eaton hit a solo homerun over the left center field fence to make TSU's lead, 5-0. This prompted a pitching change as Ashley Bolda came in for Morgan Brewer.
Bolda, however, didn't fair much better as TSU continued to roll. After a couple of walks, the Tigers stretched their lead to, 8-0, when Jasmine Dunston smacked a three-run homerun to left field.
Austin Peay finally got on the board with one run in the top of the fourth but that would be the only run that the Lady Govs would score.
The game ended in the next frame due to the mercy rule as TSU held on for the, 10-1, win and claimed the series, 2-1.
The Tigers return to action this weekend with a three-game series against Southeast Missouri. First game of Saturday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Tiger Field with the second game to follow shortly after. Sunday's conclusion, Senior Day, is set for a 1 p.m. start.
