NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tennessee State concluded its 2005 softball season with an 11-1 defeat to regular season league champion Jacksonville State Sunday afternoon. Jacksonville State (40-14, 22-4) scored six runs in the third inning on the way to taking the victory that ended after five innings due to the eight-run rule. TSU concludes its season at 8-36 and 2-22 in the OVC. Alana Hicks hit a three-run homer in the third inning, her fourth of the season for JSU. Lauren Horwath had a solo shot to lead off the fourth frame, her seventh of the season. Six Gamecocks had multiple hits in the 17-hit attack, led by third baseman Becky Carpenetti who finished 3-for-4 with one RBI. Horath scored three runs on the day. TSU avoided the shutout by getting three of its six hits in the fourth inning. Jessica Sesson had a one-out single to left and later scored on Brittani Phillips two-out single up the middle. Laura Freeman was 2-for-2 with a double for the Lady Tigers. The contest was the final home game for pitcher Tarah Evanisko, who pitched all three games in the series and for infielder Jade Savusa. Jacksonville State will host the OVC Tournament which begins Thursday.
