NASHVILLE --- Kendra Swanger, a highly-honored softball player from Sequatchie County High in Pikeville, is the latest player to join the Tennessee State softball program. An outfielder, Swanger was named to the Tennessee Sportswriters Association All-State team and to the Chattanooga All-Area team. She was also All-District 6-AA. She batted .427 and led the district with 33 RBI and led the region with an average of 1.43 RBI per game. She was four-year starter. ?Kendra is an inspiring young lady that we are excited to include on our softball team,? said TSU head coach Joyce Maudie. ?It is a challenge to balance athletics and academics at any level. She has excelled in both area and truly exemplifies the student-athlete image that is emphasized in out athletics program at TSU.? Swanger, who plans to study engineering at TSU, graduated third in her senior class. She was a member of the National Beta Club, National Society of High School Scholars, and to Who's Who. In addition to playing softball, she was captain of the school's volleyball team. She earned All-District 6-AA and received the best offensive award twice.
