NASHVILLE --- Five members of the Tennessee State University softball team were recently recognized for their achievement as National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar Athletes for the 2002 season. The Tiger softball players to receive the honor were Tarah Evanisko (Morgan Hill, Cal.), Shannon Hicks Smyrna), Casundra Jo Sharp (Fayetteville), Kristy Kittel (West Salem, Wis.), and Sabrina Smiley (Eagle River, Ak.). ?I am very proud of each of these young ladies for their hard work and leadership,? said TSU head coach Joyce Maudie. ?They are outstanding ambassadors for the TSU softball program and university.? The criteria for receiving the award from the NFCA, is to attain at least a 3.5 grade point average. The softball team posted an overall GPA of 3.14 last year. ###
