NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State softball team braved the elements in its home opener, but the Tigers could not overcome a strong Jacksonville State team in a 9-0 and 9-1 loss Monday evening. The Tigers (2-2) faced the future Ohio Valley Conference team that came to Nashville unbeaten on the season with wins over the likes of Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The Gamecocks jumped on TSU starter Tarah Evanisko early in the first game, scoring four first-inning runs. JSU scored four more times in the fifth inning. The Tigers were limited to one hit, a single by Angela Huebner. In the second game, the Gamecocks again led 3-1 heading into the sixth inning before exploding for six more runs. TSU was held to two hits, scoring its lone run on a second-inning home run by Huebner. The doubleheader started with the temperature at 39 degrees and ended below the freezing mark. TSU will play in Chattanooga's Frost Classic this weekend.
