CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. --- After dropping a couple of tough games on Saturday, the Tennessee State softball team bounced back to capture the final game of the series with a 10-4 victory at Southeast Missouri Sunday afternoon. The Tigers were dealt a tough 4-0 and 4-3 doubleheader loss on Saturday. However, the Tigers came out of the gates fast in the series finale, jumping to a 10-0 lead. Junior Alana Thomas went 4-for-4 from the plate and drove in a pair of runs. Thomas also won her third consecutive Ohio Valley Conference pitching start. Thomas worked into the sixth inning, allowing just three hits and striking out four batters before being relieved by freshman Justine Jontz. TSU led 3-0 after the first inning and added single runs in the second and fourth innings. A five-run fifth made the score 10-0. The Tigers had 10 hits in the game and had their cause helped by six Southeast errors. Angela Huebner had a first inning RBI and scored a pair of runs. Leadoff batter joined Thomas with a multiple-hit game with two single and also scored three runs. Kristy Kittell had a pair of RBI. TSU was leading 10-0 before Southeast scored four runs in the sixth. The Tigers also committed four errors in the game. On Saturday, the Tigers were held to four hits in the opener while Southeast was able to score its four runs on four hits. Marie Coode had a solo home run for the Otahkians. In the second game, the Tigers carried a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, but Southeast came back with two runs to take the win. Shannon Hicks and Misty Adfield each had RBI hits in the game. TSU (6-19, 3-5) will return to action for another OVC road series next weekend at Morehead State. Southeast (6-15-2-1) played its first conference games of the season this weekend.
