NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State pitcher Alana Thomas pitched a three-hitter to lead the way to a first-game win as the Tigers split their Ohio Valley Conference openers with visiting Tennessee-Martin Saturday afternoon, 4-1 and 5-0. Thomas, who is coming back from a broken jaw, picked up her first win as a Tiger. The left-hander allowed just three hits in the complete-game victory. UTM scored its only run after two TSU errors in the sixth inning. TSU had taken the early lead after scoring a pair of runs in the first inning and adding single runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. Melissa Toft and Angela Huebner each had a pair of hits and Misty Adfield had a two-out double in the sixth inning to drive in a run. In the second game, UT Martin scored single runs in the first and second innings and sealed the game with three runs in the sixth frame. The Tigers were held in check by pitcher Nicole Davis who allowed just two hits and went 3-for-3 from the plate with two RBI. TSU (4-15, 1-1 in the OVC) and UT Martin (9-8, 1-1) play the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
