NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State held early leads, but host Lipscomb University came back each time, including scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh inning in the first game to key a 4-3 and 5-2 doubleheader sweep of the Tigers Wednesday evening. The Tigers carried a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning of game one but a walk and a costly error set the stage for pitcher Leslie Lellis' game-winning hit to left field. TSU had built a 3-0 lead after two innings. Shannon Hicks had double to lead off the game and scored the first run. Hicks added a sacrifice fly in the second and Kristy Kittel had a run-scoring hit. Lipscomb scored single runs in the second and sixth before pushing across the two runs in the final inning. In the second game, TSU led 2-0 after two innings, but Lipscomb again came back, scoring a run in the third inning and four runs in the fourth. Jennifer Cannon hit a solo home run in the third and had a key two-run single in the fourth. TSU was limited to three hits in the second game. The game was called because of darkness in the fifth inning because of darkness. The Tigers will be off until they play in the Winthrop Tournament next weekend.
