In 2005, Katrelle Armwood became the first TSU volleyball player to win an OVC Player of the Week award three times in the same year.
Armwood's run started on Sept. 9 when she recorded an impressive 34 digs in the Tigers' 3-1 victory over Southeast Louisiana. The Tiger's defense tallied 93 total digs in the match and held the Lady Lions to just a .010 hitting percentage.
TSU played Louisiana-Monroe on the following day, and Armwood recorded another solid match. She had a team-high 16 digs and added a service ace in TSU's 3-0 win over ULM.
Armwood's 7.14 digs per set average over the weekend earned the senior her first OVC Player of the Week award on Sept. 12.
Later in the year, the Tigers beat Eastern Kentucky 3-0. However, the real story was Armwood's 46 digs in only three sets. She also was second on the squad with five assists.
Armwood had 15 digs on the following day- Oct. 22- against Murray State. The Tigers defeated the Racers 3-0, helping Armwood win her second player of the week honor.
Armwood wasn't done. She had a match-high 21 digs in the sweep of Austin Peay on Nov. 11 and followed that with 24 versus UT Martin the next day. Those numbers coupled with two TSU victories gave Armwood her record-making third weekly conference honor.
The TSU defense led by Armwood was instrumental in the Tigers' 22-11 record during 2005. She also helped lead her team to a first-place finish in the OVC with a 14-2 conference mark.
2005 was Armwood's last season at TSU, but she left the school as its all-time leader in digs with 1,691 for her career.
