TSU Athletics Celebrates 27 Spring Graduates

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University celebrated this year’s graduating class on Saturday with the 2019 Spring Commencement Ceremony at the Gentry Center.

TSU enjoyed another successful year in the classroom with a total of 27 seniors from the athletic department hearing their name called as part of Saturday’s ceremony for those graduating in May or with expected summer graduations. Combined with the graduates from the winter ceremony, Tennessee State Athletics had 36 graduates during the 2018-19 academic year.

“My staff and I spend countless hours pouring into our student-athletes with one goal in mind, graduation," said TSU Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services Jeremy Perry. "Seeing our students walk proudly across that stage reminds us of why we wake up each day, and when our students depart TSU, we are confident that they are prepared to compete for career opportunities on a global scale."

Among TSU’s graduates this spring are Ohio Valley Conference First and Second Team Selections and OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll recipients.

"I’m so very proud of the on the field as well as off the field accomplishments of our graduating student-athletes," commented Director of Athletics Teresa Phillips. "The promise we hope to always keep with our athletes is a degree from Tennessee State University. Commencement is the biggest championship ceremony of the year for us all."

Michael Eric Dyson, contributor to the New York Times, ESPN's The Undefeated and The New Republic, Georgetown University professor and Knoxville College alumn, served as the undergraduate commencement speaker on Saturday.
