136 Student-Athletes Honored on Academic Night

NASHVILLE --- On Thursday, Jan.18, the Tennessee State University Athletics Department recognized 136 student-athletes for their academic achievements during halftime of the men’s basketball game versus Austin Peay. 

Each Big Blue sport had student-athletes recognized last night including men's basketball (6), women's basketball (10), football (30), men's golf (4), women's golf (5), softball (18), men's tennis (5), women's tennis (9), men's track and field (15), women's track and field (28) and volleyball (6). The cheer team also had 12 students earn academic honors.

To be recognized, the student-athletes had to maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher during the 2017 spring or fall semester.

During the fall semester, 29 student-athletes obtained a 4.0 GPA and were named to the President’s List. Additionally, with a 3.25 GPA, 75 earned AD’s List honors while 35 students made the Dean’s List with a 3.0.

Women’s tennis (3.822) and men’s tennis (3.683) were recognized for earning the highest team GPA during the fall semester for small sports while men’s track (2.641) and softball (3.387) turned in the highest team GPA among the large sports.
