TSU Student-Athletes, Coaches Volunteer for GME Sports Week

NASHVILLE --- For the last five days, students from the Grace M. Eaton Child Care Center spent time with Tennessee State University student-athletes and coaches as part of GME’s Summer Camp for Sports Week.

“GME Sports Week is a week that all our coaches look forward to each summer as well as the children at GME,” said Tuamafa Reilly, Tennessee State University Assistant Athletic Director, “This week promotes life-long physical activity, a positive competitive environment, and motivates the children to try new sports. It is a joy to see the children exposed to and engaged in different sports at an early age.”

The week opened on Monday with the students working with men’s basketball before heading to Tiger Field to work with softball players and staff on Tuesday. The TSU volleyball team headed to GME on Wednesday to work with the students. The week concluded with the children at the indoor practice facility with the football team on Thursday and with the women’s basketball team on Friday.

Each day the student-athletes spent an hour and a half with the summer campers providing skill instruction in their respective sports as well as participating in other activities.

Grace M. Eaton Childcare Center, located in North Nashville, was founded in 1926. The mission of the center is to provide quality childcare and educational development to children of working parents or parents enrolled in educational or job training programs. The mission is guided by the premise that children should have a right to affordable, quality childcare.
