Learning the Ropes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State student-athletes took part in a career workshop hosted by the school’s Career Development Center on Thursday.

At the event athletes were able to develop their skills for entering the job market after their time in Nashville.  Students brought their resumes to be reviewed as well as learned new interview strategies.

For junior center Alex Bates graduation is just over a year away and the lessons taught will pay dividends in the near future.

“It’s very important because it’s hard to find jobs these days for people with degrees or without degrees,” Bates said.  “I think this gives us a head start in the job world because we know basketball can’t last forever.”

Lady Tigers guard Rachel Allen believes the efforts shown by the athletics department increases both the athletes experience at TSU and in the real world.

“It’s good to know people have your back and care about you out of athletics,” said the junior. “It’s tough being an athlete but it’s good to know people have your back.”
