NASHILLE --- Dr. Johnnie Smith, Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services at Tennessee State University, has been selected to serve on the NCAA Academic Performance Penalty and Rewards Panel. Smith was notified by the NCAA that she will serve on the panel that will be responsible for developing an academic recovery plan to aid institutions across the country to meet the new NCAA academic standards as it relates to incentives and disincentives. The panel will be comprised of collegiate academic experts from across the nation. Smith was selected to serve by the National Association of Academics Advisors for Athletics (N4A) president and the executive board members. At Tennessee State, Smith is responsible for coordinating all academic services and monitoring academic progress for TSU's student-athletes. She joined TSU in December after being on the staff at Austin Peay. OTHER NOTES: Carla Allen a popular former student athlete at Tennessee State University, received her law degree from Saint Louis University last week. Allen was a member of the TSU volleyball team from 1999-2001.
