NASHVILLE --- The John Merritt Classic Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, August 29 and will be held at the Ted Rhodes Golf Course. The tournament is one of several events scheduled in conjunction with the Fifth Annual John Merritt Classic and proceeds will benefit Tennessee State University Athletics.
The tournament will have a shotgun start beginning at 1 p.m. The tournament is an 18-hole four-person scramble and will be held rain or shine. Registration will be conducted from 11:15 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the golf course, located at 1901 Ed Temple Blvd.
There will be prizes and awards presented for closest to the pin, longest drive, any hole-in-one, and the first, second, and third-place teams in the three flights.
An awards ceremony and dinner will be held following conclusion of play. Honorary chairman for the tournament is TSU and Olympic track coaching legend Ed Temple.
The cost for the tournament will be $400 for each team and a single golfer can register for the tournament at a cost of $125. The cost includes the green fees, golf cart, and dinner.

The Fifth Annual John Merritt Classic football game will feature Tennessee State playing host to South Carolina the following evening (August 30) in the Coliseum. Pre-game events begin at 6 p.m.
