Emmonnie Henderson

Emmonnie Henderson joined the Tennessee State track and field coaching staff as a graduate assistant prior to the start of the 2018-19 season. The native of East St. Louis, Ill. works directly with TSU’s throwers.

Henderson arrives at TSU following an All-American career at the University of Louisville.

Throughout her standout collegiate throwing career, Henderson was a nine-time All-American, including four First-Team honors (three in shot put, one in discus).  At the conference level, Henderson earned seven Atlantic Coast Conference Championships (six shot put, one discus) to go with ACC Outdoor Women’s Field MVP awards in 2015 and 2016 and ACC Indoor Women's Field MVP accolades in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

She finished second in the shot put at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships and the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Her top finish in the discus came at the 2015 NCAA National Championships when she placed third.

In 2017, Henderson was named USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year. She also took 10th in the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in the shot put in 2017. Henderson competed in the 2016 US Olympic Trials and is training for a chance to qualify for the 2020 Olympics.

Henderson graduated as the school record holder at Louisville for the indoor shot put (18.14m – 59’6.25”), outdoor shot put (17.98m – 59’0”) and the discus (58.34m – 191’5”).

She graduated from Louisville in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science and physiology.

She is working toward her Master’s degree in exercise science and physiology at TSU.
