Brumfield Sets New Personal Best in Long Jump at Memphis Invite

NASHVILLE — For the third time this outdoor season, sophomore R’Lazon Brumfield earned a third first-place finish in the field events.

Brumfield is only a few days removed from being named the Tennessee State University Male Athlete of the year. The Jacksonville-native showcased why he deserved the award with a leaping personal-best mark of 7.89m in the long jump at the Memphis Invitational on Friday.

Jamario Scott also had a top-5 finish for the Flying Tigers. Scott placed fifth in a competitive field of 41 with a blazing time of 21.98 in the 200-meter run.

The Tigerbelles had a busy day for TSU. Lakeia Hill and Gabrielle Younginer placed fourth and fifth, respectively in the long jump. Hill covered a mark of 5.94 and Younginer was right behind her teammate at 5.93m.

The Tigerbelles also had 14 runners to place in the 200-meter run.
