TSU Track and Field Head to Kentucky for Hilltopper Relays


DATE: April 5-6
LOCATION: Western Kentucky University | Bowling Green, Ky.


STARTING LINE: The Tennessee State men’s and women’s track and field team will travel north for the Hilltopper Relays on Friday and Saturday.

THE FIELD: Indiana Wesleyan, Tennessee Tech, Iowa Central CC, Austin Peay, Grand Valley State, Siena Heights, Eastern Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, Lindsey Wilson, Southern Illinois, Tennessee State, Lipscomb, Cedarville, Kentucky Wesleyan, Findlay, Campbellsville

LAST TIME OUT: The Tennessee State men’s track and field team had an off week since the team’s showing at the Black and Gold Invitational at Vanderbilt.

Mikayla Thompson finished in second place in the shot put (15.38) and set a personal-record heave in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.02 meters (151’0”) to place 12th and she also placed 10th in the discus throw.

R’Lazon Brumfield earned a first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.33m at the Black and Gold Invite. In a competitive field of 23 in the 400-meter hurdles, Ashley Bailey and Desmond Tanner placed 10th and 13th, respectively. Bailey finished with a time of 54.65 and Tanner finished with a time of 55.69.

OUTDOOR SCHEDULE: TSU has competed in two of five outdoor meets this season. The Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship is scheduled for May 9-11 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Two of TSU’s outdoor meets are in the state of Tennessee (Black and Gold Invitational – Nashville; Memphis Invitational – Memphis).
