Flying Tigers Comfortable at Home with Seven Top-20 Finishes

NASHVILLE — The Flying Tigers concluded day two of the Black and Gold Invitational at Vanderbilt with seven top-20 finishes in their only track and field meet in Nashville this season.

Receiving full support from the Tennessee State track and field team, past TSU student-athletes, and friends and families make competing in Nashville both special and important even if it's at Vanderbilt.

“It’s good to be here,” said junior Jamario Scott. “For people, that’s not running on the team, it’s good for them because they can get involved with all of us. They can come out and support. For track, we need as much support as you can get to finish.”

The support also helped sophomore R’Lazon Brumfield to his first first-place finish of the outdoor season as he continues to pile up accolades. The Jacksonville, Flo. native leaped to a first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.33m.

Michael Willingham Jr. had a strong showing in the discus throw with a heave up of 48.02 to place fifth in the field event. In a competitive field of 23 in the 400-meter hurdles, Ashley Bailey and Desmond Tanner placed 10th and 13th, respectively. Bailey finished with a time of 54.65 and Tanner finished with a time of 55.69.

The Flying Tigers will have a week off before traveling to Bowling Green, Ky. on April 5.
