BLACK AND GOLD INVITATIONAL

LOCATION: Vanderbilt Track – Nashville, Tenn.
STARTING LINE: The Tennessee State men’s and women’s track and field team will compete in their first in-state outdoor meet of the season in the Black and Gold Invitational at Vanderbilt on Friday and Saturday.
THE FIELD: Tennessee State, Vanderbilt, Memphis, Mississippi State, Western Kentucky, Alabama, Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Tech, Lipscomb, Auburn, Tennessee Tech, Belmont, Furman, Louisiana Tech, Ball State, Austin Peay, Connecticut, U.A.B., South Alabama, Tennessee Wesleyan
LAST TIME OUT: The Tennessee State men’s track and field team roared out of the Yellow Jacket Invitational with seven top-10 finishes. The fruitful weekend resulted in two Flying Tigers receiving Ohio Valley Conference Awards. Sophomore R’Lazon Brumfield earned Field Athlete of the Week for a second place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 52-00.0. Redshirt-junior Ashley Bailey earned Track Athlete of the Week for his record time in the 400-meter hurdles. His time of 55.07 is the first in the OVC this season and ranks 39th in the NCAA East Region.
Tigerbelle Mikayla Thompson delivered a virtuoso performance with a second and sixth place finish at the Yellow Jacket Invite. Thompson placed second in the shot put with a mark of 47-05.25 and sixth in the discus throw with a mark of 142-01.
OUTDOOR SCHEDULE: TSU will compete in five outdoor meets before the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship scheduled for May 9-11 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Two of TSU’s outdoor meets are in the state of Tennessee (Black and Gold Invitational – Nashville; Memphis Invitational – Memphis).
