NASHVILLE — The Flying Tigers hovered around second place at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship, but ultimately closed day one in sixth place in Birmingham, Ala.

The Tennessee State men’s track and field dominated the long jump, which was lead by OVC Field Athlete of the Year, R’Lazon Brumfield.

Brumfield claimed a second straight first-place OVC championship medal in the long jump. The sophomore cleared a distance of 7.62m. Roderick Johnson Jr. stood on the podium alongside his teammate in third place with a distance of 6.85m (22-05.75).

Michael Willingham Jr. was the third Flying Tiger to place in an event at the OVC championship. Willingham Jr. threw a distance of 12.63m (41-05.25).

Prelims for running events also took place and the final runs will begin a 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Field Events begin at 9 a.m.
