Track and Field Kicks Off Indoor Season at Vanderbilt Opener

STARTING LINE: The Tennessee State men’s and women’s track and field teams kick off the 2018 season at the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener Saturday morning at Vanderbilt’s Multipurpose Facility. This marks the sixth-consecutive year that TSU has opened the indoor season at Vanderbilt’s Multipurpose Facility.

THE FIELD: This year’s Vanderbilt Opener field includes (20) Tennessee State (M/W), Austin Peay (W), Belmont (M/W), Berry (M/W), Bryan College (M/W), Campbellsville (M/W), Cumberlands (M/W), Kentucky Wesleyan (M/W), Lindsey Wilson (M/W), Little Rock (M/W), McKendree (M/W), Memphis (M/W), Mercer (M/W), Middle Tennessee (M/W), Murray State (W), Southern Indiana (M/W), Tennessee Tech (W), Tennessee Wesleyan (M/W), Trevecca Nazarene (M/W), Western Kentucky (M/W), and Vanderbilt (M/W). 

LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee State unofficially opened the 2018-19 season with the annual Blue and White Meet on Nov. 14. Sophmore R’Lazon Brumfield won the long and triple jump on the men’s side, while Chicago-native Kyla Jimmar posted victories in the 150m and the 55m hurdles for the second year in a row.

UP NEXT: TSU hosts the Ed Temple Classic Jan. 6, 2019 at the Gentry Center. The meet will serve as TSU’s lone home meet of the season.
