STARTING LINE: The Tennessee State track and field teams will travel to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in the Memphis Invitational. The April 27-28 event is the final competition for TSU before the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship – May 10-12 in Cookeville, Tenn.

THE FIELD: Arkansas Baptist, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Christian Brothers, Coahoma CC, Jackson State, Little Rock, Louisiana, Memphis, Mississippi Valley State, Missouri State, Morehouse, Murray State, Southeast Missouri, Tennessee State, UAB, UT Martin, Union University

LAST TIME OUT: R’Lazon Brumfield earned second place in the long jump, while Isaiah Olige took third in the 400m hurdles at the Georgia Tech Invitational last week. For the Tigerbelles at the competition, Mikayla Thompson took home second in the shot put, and Angel Horton picked up third in the triple jump.

RANKINGS IN THE EAST REGION AMONG NCAA DIVISION I STUDENT-ATHLETES: The NCAA Selection Committee accepts the top-48 performers in each individual event and the top-24 relay teams in both relays to compete at each site hosting the NCAA Preliminary Rounds for a total of 96 individuals and 48 relays competing nationwide. The NCAA East Preliminary Round is scheduled for May 24-26 in Tampa, Fla. Here is how individuals from TSU currently rank in the East Region:

    • 25th – Cyra Beard – High Jump – 1.75m (5’8.75”)
    • 36th – Mikayla Thompson – Shot Put – 15.34m (50’4”)
