Weems Baskin Invitational Day One Complete for Flying Tigers

COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Reigning Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week R’Lazon Brumfield set a new personal record in the long jump to highlight day one of the Weems Baskin Invitational at Sheila and Morris Cregger Track in Columbia, S.C. on Friday.

  • Brumfield’s mark of 7.29m (23’11”) surpassed his previous best of 7.28m (23’10.75”) set at last week’s Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. His distance on the day won the open division of the long jump competition.
  • TSU’s 4x800m relay team also improved from last week’s performance. The team of Jontue McDowell, Marcus Abdul, Tahj Boyd and Thomas Mosley put together a time of 7:53.95 to take third on Friday.
  • In the hammer throw, Michael Willingham Jr.  reached 45.25m (148’5”), which was good for ninth in the invitational division.
  • TSU concludes the Weems Baskin Invitational tomorrow.
