STARTING LINE: After a successful showing at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational last week in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the Tennessee State men’s and women’s track and field teams return to the state of South Carolina for the Weems Baskin Invitational on March 23-24 in Columbia, S.C.

THE FIELD: Among the schools scheduled to be competing are the host school South Carolina, Hampton, Coastal Carolina, Campbell, Georgia Southern, Coppin State, Savannah State, NC Central, Florida A&M, Western Carolina, Appalachian State and North Carolina A&T, among others.

LAST TIME OUT: Cyra Beard won the high jump (1.75m – 5’8.75”) and triple jump (12.09m – 39’8”) at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational to pace TSU in the outdoor opener. Mikayla Thompson also took first in the shot put (15.34m – 50’4”). The Flying Tigers picked up first-place finishes from Thomas Mosley in the mile (4:35.31), James Faison in the 400m (48.57) and R’Lazon Brumfield in the triple jump (15.20m – 49’10.5”).

OVC AWARDS: TSU won three Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards from the opening performance at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. On the men’s side, R’Lazon Brumfield won OVC Field Athlete of the Week and James Faison was named OVC Co-Track Athlete of the Week. For the Tigerbelles, Cyra Beard took OVC Field Athlete of the Week accolades.

    • 58th – Isaiah Olige – 400m Hurdles – 54.46
