Hughes and Prince Qualify for USATF Outdoor Championships


NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State track and field team had two former student-athletes qualify for the USA Track & Field (USATF) Outdoor Championships set for June 22-25 at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium in Sacramento Calif.

Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) and Quamel Prince (Nashville, Tenn.), who both graduated from TSU in May of 2017, departed yesterday for the championships.

Hughes will compete in the triple jump on Thursday, June 22. The five-time All-American bested the qualifying standard of 13.60m with a mark of 13.62m (44’8.25”) at the North Florida Invitational on April 8.

Prince is set to run in the first round of the 800m on Thursday, June 22, in hopes of qualifying for the semifinals the following day. The OVC 800m indoor and outdoor champion bested the 1:47.50 qualifying time by clocking in at 1:46.76 at the Music City Distance Carnival at Vanderbilt on June 10th.
