Nine TSU Student-Athletes Secure Spots at NCAA East Preliminary

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men’s track and field teams will be well represented at the NCAA East Preliminary Championship as a combined nine individuals will compete at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 26-28.

For individual events, top 12 finishers will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 8-11. Relay teams that finish in the top 12 in their region will also move onto Oregon. The Preliminary round is broken up into East (Jacksonville, Fla.) and West (Lawrence, Kan.) regions.

The NCAA Selection Committee accepted the top-48 performers in each individual event and the top-24 relay teams in both relays to compete at each site hosting the NCAA Preliminary Rounds for a total of 96 individuals and 48 relays competing nationwide.

For the Tigerbelles, Cyra Beard (Jackson, Tenn.), Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.), Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.), Christian Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.), Kayla Pryor (Ellenwood, Ga.) and Amber Townsend (Atlanta, Ga.) will all be in action.

Cyra Beard – High Jump
Clairwin Dameus – Long Jump, 100m Hurdles, 4x400m Relay
Amber Hughes - Triple Jump, Long Jump, 100m Hurdles, 4x400m Relay
Christian Pryor – 4x400m Relay
Kayla Pryor – 400m Hurdles, 4x400m Relay
Amber Townsend – Triple Jump

On the men’s side, Jason Griffin (Gallatin, Tenn.), Kareem Nicholas (Atlanta, Ga.) and Quamel Prince (Nashville, Tenn.) will represent the Flying Tigers.

Kareem Nicholas – Long Jump, Triple Jump
Quamel Prince – 800m
