TSU Men's Track and Field Heads to Georgia Tech Invite

STARTING LINE: The TSU men’s track and field team is scheduled to travel to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the two-day Georgia Tech Invite on April 22-23 at the George G. Griffin Track & Field Facility.

THE SCHEDULE: Friday’s schedule begins with the hammer at 11 a.m. with running events kicking off at 5 p.m. with the women’s 100m hurdles. Saturday's events will get underway with the high jump at 11 a.m. and the 4x100m relay at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Flying Tigers put together two good days at the APSU Invitational, taking a number of top finishes. Kyle Washington-Scott (St. Louis, Mo.) won the shot put (15.64m) and discus (49.28m), while Kareem Nicholas (Atlanta, Ga.) took first in the triple jump (15.69m).

On the track, Quamel Prince (Nashville, Tenn.) won the 800m (1:50.04), and Jason Griffin (Gallatin, Tenn.) paced the field in the 110m hurdles (14.83).

NICHOLAS HONORED: Junior Kareem Nicholas (Atlanta, Ga.) earned his second Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week award, securing the honor on April 19. At last weekend’s APSU Invitational, Nicholas won the triple jump with a personal record distance of 15.69m (51’5.75”), which ranks 19th in the nation. He also took second in the long jump by reaching 7.37m (24’2.25”).

UP NEXT: The next event on the schedule for TSU is the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship on May 13-14. Tennessee State will serve as the host for the event, which will take place at the Edward S. Temple Track on campus.
