BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - The Tennessee State men’s track and field team swept the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Weekly Awards with Quamel Prince (Nashville, Tenn.) earning Adidas OVC Track Athlete of the Week and Shaquille Cragwall (Lebanon, Tenn.) taking home Adidas OVC Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday.
Prince ranks among the nation’s best in the 800m with a time of 1:51.13 from the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener. The time is also the best by an OVC athlete this season. In the 4x400m relay at Vandy, Prince teamed with Jontue McDowell (Jacksonville, Fla.), Jason Griffin (Gallatin, Tenn.) and Malik Wright (Tampa, Fla.) for the top time in the OVC of 3:16.85.
Excelling in the field events, Cragwall posted the best triple jump distance in the conference of 14.94m at the Ed Temple Classic over the weekend. The effort is good enough to rank the senior 19th in the nation. Cragwall is also second in the OVC in the long jump with a mark of 7.01m and seventh in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.90m.
The Flying Tigers are back in action Jan. 15-16 for the Commodore Indoor Invitational at Vanderbilt.
