Hughes, Dameus Head to Oregon For NCAA Championship

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State Tigerbelles Amber Hughes and Clairwin Dameus will compete in the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, June 11-13.

Hughes will be first to race in the 100-meter hurdles on Thursday at 7:02 CT. She will take part as the No. 1 runner in the third heat. She will move on to the finals on Saturday if she can finish in the top two in her heat or record one of the two fastest times between the remaining 18 competitors.

Hughes earner her spot in the NCAA Championship by coming in 12th in the East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 30. The Atlanta, Ga. native also narrowly missed qualifying in the triple jump, placing 13th (12.77 meters).

Dameus will finish the day by taking part in the long jump at 7:15 CT. She will be the 10th competitor in the second heat, with the top nine of the 24 advancing to the final later that day.

Dameus placed 10th in the East Preliminary after a leap of 6.09 meters. Her season-best mark of 6.16 meters is currently tied for the 44th longest leap in the nation.

Fans can watch the Tigerbelles on the ESPN family of networks with action beginning at 4 p.m. on Thursday and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
