Dameus, Hughes, Prince to Compete in NCAA Prelim

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A trio of members from the Tennessee State track and field teams will compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Round on May 28-30 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Tigerbelles Clairwin Dameus (LJ) and Amber Hughes (TJ, 100H) join Flying Tiger Quamel Prince (800M) as the top 48 competitors in each of their respective events.

Dameus qualified for the prelim with a 6.16-meter leap in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship on May 15. The hop was the second longest of the junior’s career and ranks 44th nationally.

Hughes, the reigning OVC Female Athlete of the Championship, qualified for the 200 meter dash, but will just compete in the triple jump and 100 meter hurdles due to time constraints. The Atlanta, Ga. native set new personal bests with a 12.82 meter skip in the triple jump and a 13.27 second finish in the hurdles at the conference championship. Those two marks rank, 39th and 29th, respectively.

For Prince, the sophomore will compete in the 800 meter dash, an event that has helped him win two OVC Track Athlete of the Week Awards this season. Prince qualified by clocking a 1:48.41 at the OVC Championships, putting him in 25th place for this weekend.
