TSU Track and Field Wraps Up Indoor Regular Season

Nashville, Tenn. - Both Tennessee State University's track and field teams will wrap up the indoor regular season, when they travel to Murfreesboro to compete in the MTSU Valentine Invitational on Saturday, February 11th. 

The meet will begin at 3pm with the men and women's shot put and ending with the men and women's one mile relay. Along with TSU, teams that are scheduled to compete include: Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Belmont, Chattanooga, Milligan, Western Kentucky, and host Middle Tennessee State. 

The Tigerbelles are coming off an impressive showing at the TSU Invite on January 29th at the Gentry Center. Ashontae Jackson claimed four first place finishes for the women in the day. She registered a mark of 5.53m in the long jump. She later went on to win the 50m dash with a time of 7.15., followed by a 24.87 marking in the200m dash.  In the final event of the day, Jackson along with Gabrielle Todd, Kya Riley, and Breanna Adams won the 4x400m relay race with a time of 3:48.75

Todd won the 400m title with a time of 56.89. Felicia Olakadun finished behind her in third with a time of 59.63.

Senior Daniecce Ward won both the high jump and triple jump events with markings of 1.63 meters and 11.32 meters. Ward is currently first in the Ohio Valley Conference in the long jump with a 5.72m mark. Olakadun finished right behind her in the triple jump with a showing of 11.07meters. 

Brielle Moore placed first and set her individual best in the 55 meter hurdles, registering a time of 8.52. Latia Carney finished right behind for a second place finish with a time of 8.56, her career best.

Diera Taylor earned a third place finish with a time of 25.93 in the 200. Breanna Adams finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:16.99, her career best. 

Brittani Logan tossed a mark of 14.54 meters in the weight throw, for a first place finish. Tiffany Harris won the 5000 meter run with a time of 22:27.46

Michael Johnson got the Flying Tigers' day off to a good start by finishing in first place in the 400 with a time of 50.33. Tamorron Key and Osafa Hippolyte finished second and third with times of 51.61 and 52.39 respectively.

Jamill Jackson and Jonathan Owens finished 1-2 in the 800 meter race with times of 1:54.73 and 1:57.24. Jackson later went on to team with Jahleel Michael, LeQuinn Davis, and Lamonte Burton to win the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:20.48

Avian Hughes earned a mark of 6.37 meters in the long jump, for a second place finish. Arthur Combest finished in third with a time of 7.68 in the 55 meter hurdles. 

Davis finished second in the 55 meter dash with time of 6.48 and Burton also placed in second with a time of 22.37 in the 200. Both set career best in their respective events.

Redshirt freshman Alex Griffin grabbed two second place finishes in the shotput (12.92) and weight throw (11.46), his personal best.

Next up, TSU will host the two-day Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship in the Gentry Center, beginning on Friday, February 24.
