Beal and Guice Prepare for Mideast Region Outdoor Championship

Nashville, Tenn. - Ohio Valley Conference long jump champions, Darreal Beal and Martinique Guice will compete in the 2009 NCAA Mideast Region Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Louisville at Cardinal Park.

The 2009 NCAA Mideast Regional, which is scheduled for May 29-30, will feature men and women's teams from 12 different states. Overall, the Mideast Region includes more than 80 schools and consistently features one of the deepest fields of nationally ranked teams.

Guice represents the Tigerbellles while remaining undefeated on the year in outdoor competition in the long jump. The sophomore captured the OVC outdoor title with a personal best 20'07.75". Guice was named OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week  (3/31) and Female Field Athlete of the Week (1/20, 4/14).

Beal led the Flying Tigers' sweep in the long jump winning with a mark of  23'02.75". The junior cpatured his first OVC title after finishing second at the indoor championship.

Beal was named OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week (3/24) and Indoor Co-Male Field Athlete of the Week (2/3). He follows former Tiger, Buford Williams, who qualified for the Region Championship in the long jump last season.

The long jump trials and finals will take place on Friday (5/29) at 5 p.m. with the meet scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on both days. 

It will be the first time U of L has hosted the regional event, which is one of four qualifying meets for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The top-five finishers from each region automatically qualify for the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
