CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. --- Sophomore Mbenga Saihou won the long jump to highlight the Tennessee State men's track team appearance in the Southeast Missouri State Gatorade Classic over the weekend.
Saihou had a best jump of 23 feet and 8.75 inches to capture the event. Freshman Buford Williams also had a strong showing with a jump of 22-11.25 to finish third place and give the Flying Tigers a total of 16 points in the event. Saihou also came through with a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a 45.04.50. He also competed in the high jump and placed 10th.
The Southeast event featured nine teams competing and team scores were kept for the event. TSU finished sixth in the field, ahead of Ohio Valley Conference foes Murray State and Austin. Indiana State of the Missouri Valley won with a team total of 182 followed by host Southeast Missouri's 142.
Christopher Howell placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.09 seconds. Howell was fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.88 seconds. Tiger Michael Smith was fifth among Division I runners with a time of 14.90.
TSU's Marcus Morris was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.79 seconds in a closely-contested race.
TSU will host its own Boston/Moon Classic on April 16 at the Edward S. Temple Track.
