NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State freshman Naquanza Alford will certainly remember the beginning of her collegiate career as an outdoor track athlete with her naming as the first Ohio Valley Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week for the 2005 season.
A student-athlete from Fresno, Texas, Alford received the honor from the OVC headquarters in nearby Brentwood on Tuesday afternoon. Alford made an immediate impact during the Tigerbelles indoor season and has continued her solid performances with the start of the outdoor season.
Alford won the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.40 while running the 1500 meters in 4:446:17 to take second place in the University of Central Florida Invitational. Both of her times rank first on the OVC best lists thus far this spring season.
The Tigerbelles and Alford will return to the Sunshine State this weekend. The Tigerbelles will compete in the Florida Relays in Gainesville.
