MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --- Tennessee State's men's and women's indoor track and field teams continue to have impressive showings in competition. Both teams competed at the Blue Raider Invitational, hosted by Middle Tennessee State. Tennessee State competed against athletes from Chattanooga, Western Kentucky, Jackson State, and host MTSU. Several Tigerbelles improved on their season-bests at the meet. Junior Makeya Miller bested her indoor 800m time by more than three seconds, taking third-place in the event with a time of 2:25.58. In the 200m, freshman Porsche Buckner topped her old indoor best time by .03 seconds, taking second-place in her section with a time of 25.93. Sophomore Rebekah Robinson whittled more than one second off her 400m time, taking the top spot in the event with a time of 58.12. Sophomore Rae'Ven Richard trimmed more than 12 seconds off her mile time, finishing in ninth-place with a time of 5:37.48. The Tigerbelles' 4x440 relay team took first-place with a time of 3:51.20. The men's 'A' team finished third with a time of 3:20.40. Nick Horton led the way for the men's team, taking first-place in the 400m with a time of 47.61. Also coming away with high finishes in their respective events were Jermie Harris, who finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:58.18 and Mike Smith, who placed third in the 55m Hurdles with a time of 7.63. On the field side for the Tigerbelles, Scherrie Jackson came away with a second-place finish in the high jump with a measurement of 1.62m (5-04.00), while junior Jillian Brown took fifth in the event with a height of 1.52m (5-00.00). Jackson also took third in the triple jump with a measurement of 11.48m (37-08.00). She wa followed closely by last week's Ohio Valley Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week, junior Ashley Byrd, who took fourth with a measurement of 11.40m (37-05.00). Up next for Tennessee State, the teams will be hosting the TSU Invitational at the Gentry Center on January 31- February 1.
