MURFREESBORO --- The Tennessee State men's track team competed in the Middle Tennessee Invitational over the weekend, making several improved performances.
Coach Kelly Carter is leading the rebuilding process of the men's program and TSU got an early look in competition to the 2002-03 season against strong teams from Western Kentucky and host Middle Tennessee.
Nick Horton was a section winner in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.88 seconds. Teammates Pedro Barnes and Rico Young were second and third with times of 22.49 and 22.74.
Paul Satcher, Patrick Robinson, and Jackie Robinson took places second through fourth in the 400-meter dash. Michael Smith took second place in the 55-mter hurdles with a time of 7.70 seconds.
The field events for the Tigers were highlighted by Antionne Ferrell's tie for first place. Ferrell and MTSU's Pierre Ingram each had a best jump of 6 feet 2.0 inches.
TSU will break for the holidays and return to action in January with the Edward S. Temple Invitational to be held Jan. 12 in the Gentry Center.
