NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State men's track team jumped right into the outdoor season by competing in the Jackson State 2003 Invitational last weekend.
TSU did not have its complete team on the trip, but still came away with some solid performances and finished third as a team in the scored meet. Host Jackson State won the meet with a 128, followed by Alabama State 98, TSU 77, Alcorn State 27, and Mississippi Valley State 16.
Highlights for the Tigers included taking the top two spots in the 110-meter high hurdles. Michael Smith won with a time of 14.73 second and Marcus Morris was second with a 14.83. Morris also scored for the Tigers with a fourth place finish in the 400-mter hurdles with a time of 57.88.
The Tigers took second place in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Pedro Barnes ran a 10.91 while Nick Horton was third with an 11.08. Horton was runner-up in the 200 meters with a time of 21.71.
Jermie Harris came through with a third place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 48.57. Eric Stanberry was fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.98.
