Misdrachis and Kakkar Named OVC Male and Female Athletes of the Week

Brentwood, Tenn. --- Freshman Leandros Misdrachis (Larissa, Greece) and sophomore Aarushi Kakkar (Chandigarh, India) have been named the Ohio Valley Conference's Male and Female Athlete of the Week.

Misdrachis led the Tigers at No. 1 in both singles and doubles as TSU swept Arkansas Pine Bluff at home last weekend. Misdrachis paired with sophomore Stefan Koruga to defeat the Lions at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (1-0), and followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Le’Darrien Ledbetter at No. 1 singles.

The last time a Tiger received the Male Athlete of the Week award was in 2016 when former Tiger Shashank Nautiyal defeated Arkansas Pine Bluff at home in both singles and doubles. Nautiyal's doubles partner was current Interim Assitant Coach Kyle Burton.

Kakkar went undefeated at No. 1 singles last week defeating WKU (6-2, 6-2), Arkansas Pine Bluff unfinished (7-6 (5), 1-0) and The Valley’s conference leader Missouri State (6-4, 6-1). The sophomore leads TSU in singles play with a 5-1 overall record. She also helped TSU clinch the doubles point vs. the Hilltoppers joined by fellow sophomore Morgan Cage at No. 2, 6-4. Kakkar is the first in program history to be named OVC Athlete of the Week.

The women's team returns to action March 15 as it hosts IUPUI at Vanderbilt's Currey Tennis Center with first serve set for 4 p.m. The men have a short break before heading into conference play March 23 at Austin Peay at 2 p.m.
