JACKSONVILLE, Ala. --- The Tennessee State men’s tennis team fell 7-0 to Jacksonville State at the JSU Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.

“Guys played pretty good today,” TSU Head Coach Monroe Walker III said. “We fought hard in doubles and the intensity was great. We played really well in singles. Matt did great today. He is holding his own at No. 1. If a couple of balls go his way he may have won his match. We have to keep working hard and get ready to close out the regular season Monday, before the conference tournament.”

TSU began the match trailing 1-0 after losing the doubles point to start the day. Tom Parant and Kyle Burton trailed 3-5 in their doubles match before it went unfinished.

Matt Brown played tough at No. 1 losing by scores of 7-6, 6-3 to Jaryd Reese. The Tigers struggled in singles play throughout the afternoon. Shashank Nautiyal provided a spark at No. 4 before falling to Felix Morck 7-5, 6-3.

Despite the loss, the Tigers earned the first conference tournament appearance since 2003. TSU will have an opportunity to capture an OVC championship and a playoff berth in the NCAA tournament.

Tennessee State will complete the regular season on Monday Apr. 17 at Hadley Park for Senior Day at 3 pm.
