TSU Men Drop Two/Women Drop One Match to SDSU

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University men’s and women’s tennis teams fell to South Dakota State University on Tuesday.

The Tigers’ men’s team (0-4) played a pair of matches with the Jack Rabbit’s men’s team (6-4) falling 7-0 in the first installment. TSU made things interesting in the second match, winning three singles points. They dropped both doubles’ matches, though, and lost 4-3 for the match.

The Jack Rabbit’s women’s team (3-5), meanwhile, defeated the Tigers’ women’s team (0-1) 7-0 in TSU’s first match of the season. Adrianne Presley managed to earn a point in her match-up, but the rest of the team fell in straight sets 6-0.

After falling in the first match in straight sets, TSU fought back in the singles’ portion of the men’s second match.

Darryl Hale beat Mateus Moreira in three sets for the first point of the Tigers season. Daniel Bernal, the third matchup, won 6-2, 6-2 over Jonny Higham for the second point. Kyle Burton then defeated Marco Paulo Castron in straight sets for the fourth matchup to give TSU its three points.

Despite their singles’ success, the Tigers fell in both doubles’ matches and a pair of singles’ matches to complete the 4-3 loss to SDSU.

Both the men and the women will host Eastern Illinois for their next match. Match day is Friday with the start time scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
