Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men’s and women’s tennis teams completed the first week of practice in preparation for the 2013-14 season. Head coach Robert Cain is in his second season at the helm of the tennis program and has brought in a foundation of players to begin the turn-around process.
Freshman Joe Daniels joins sophomore Kyle Burton and transfer Ryan Weatherly as new additions to the men’s squad. The trio will team up with returners Jared Asher, Branden McClain and Daniel Bernal. A pair of freshmen highlights the incoming class on the women’s side. Victoria Haynes and Trinity Randolph look to be the building blocks with sophomore veteran Attallah Eiland.
Both teams will play in three individual based tournaments in the fall before their traditional spring season which features 18 matches. The fall schedule begins with a trip to Atlanta for the HBCU Championships from Sept. 19-22. Both squads will compete in the ITA Regionals with the men traveling to Knoxville, while the women will compete in Memphis. The fall concludes for the men with a return trip to Knoxville; the women will wrap up their tournament season in Jonesboro, Ark.
