Tigers Tennis Drops Contest at SIUE

Edwardsville, Ill. - Tennessee State tennis fell in its' first road match of the season, dropping a pair of 7-0 contests at SIUE on Saturday afternoon.

The TSU men's and women's squads both fell to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in Ohio Valley Conference play. SIUE's men moved to 3-8 (1-2 OVC), while the women improved to 6-8 (1-2 OVC).

In men's doubles action, SIUE's Marten Jonsson/Jacob Tanulanond defeated TSU's No. 1 tandem of Lawrence Washington and Shaun Ingram, 8-3. Jared Asher and William Simmons lost 8-0 to Gary Dias and Stephen Washuta.

In singles competition, TSU forfeited the sixth point and Dylan Reed knocked off James Shelton in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). Asher fell to Devan Faulkenberg (6-0, 6-0), while Nicolas Vincent defeated Simmons (6-0, 6-2).

Ingram, the Tigers' number two singles player, fell in a tough contest to Morten Christensen (6-1, 6-4). Washington lost the top flight match (6-1, 6-1) Jonsson.

In women's doubles action, the Tigers lost the doubles points after losing all three matches in straight sets . The No. 3 duo of SIUE's Lindsey Raymond/Joanna Corkern knocked off Shardel Suber and Khadijah Williams, 8-0.

Melynda Simmons and Kryston Mason dropped an 8-0 to Amanda Miller and Kali Donner.  In the number one doubles contest, Lauren and London Thomas fell 8-0 to Carli Connors and Laura Horning.

For the Tiger in singles action, Raymond defeated Williams, 6-1, 6-0. Horning won the five spot over the Tigers' Suber (6-0, 6-1).  Haley Ilcewicz won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) over Mason and Rachel Webb knocked off Lauren Thomas (6-0, 6-0).

In the two spot, London Thomas fell 6-0, 6-1 to Donner. The Tigers' Simmons dropped a 6-4, 6-0 contest to Connors.

Tennessee State resumes OVC action on Sunday against Eastern Illinois with an 11 a.m. first serve.
